Plastifil was born first to supply technical monofilament yarns to its mother company Aspasie. That latter corporation is manufacturing hair swatches for showing hair colors, made of synthetic monofilaments. Their customers are international leaders in the cosmetic Industry as Procter & Gamble and L’Oreal. Aspasie is not only taking a major share of the North American market but they are developing more and more customers in Europe and in Japan.
Since Aspasie was buying all their yarns in Europe and many plastic parts around in the province of Quebec, the company decided to integrate their plastic supplies by investing in extrusion capacity. Obliged to locate their new equipment, they bought a vacant space on Bellefeuille street in Trois-Rivières and then, in 1998, was born the new corporation Plastifil. Directed by Maxim Gélinas, Plastifil is now producing 35,000 kilograms annually in addition to make over 5 million plastic parts of various kind.
From the manufacturing of monofilament side, the production still serves Aspasie in their supplies by extruding as much as a hundred of different colors from which their assembling is creating over 200 specific colors. This know-how of Plastifil in integrating color pigments and shampoo scents into polymers is bringing to the Textile Industry a whole new range of colors and possibilities.
